            Spend a Night on the Town

 

When you have art galleries, museums, theaters, great restaurants and unique boutiques right on your doorstep, who needs to drive to Denver? Greeley downtown has a neighborly atmosphere filled with culture and history. Browse our exceptional galleries or catch a show at the Dinner Theater or Civic Center. Whether youre shopping for a gift, grabbing a cup of coffee, or treating yourself to a night out, trade in that stuffy mall scene for some fresh outdoor air and immerse yourself in a bit of local arts and culture. Downtown is Greeley’s Arts & Entertainment district with plenty to offer! 

On the first Friday of each month explore the arts while you stroll through town and enjoy light refreshments along the way. From live blues and southern rock music to abstract and watercolor paintings, porcelain and blown glass, collages, photography, hand woven rag rugs, jewelry from the Philippians, wood furniture and turnings, or stone carvings… Greeley has something for you!

May 2008 Art Walk:

Walk…or Ride with the Hearts and Tails Carriage Company. Spend a special Night on the Town with us during Art Walk in Greeley downtown. For only $10/couple horse carriage rides are available near the Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant from 7pm-9pm. Take a romantic stroll around our beautiful, local park for a truly spectacular evening event.

Madison and Main Gallery, 927 16th Street, will be hosting the opening reception for its annual “Garden Show” exhibit from 5pm-7pm. If your garden grows anything like Madison & Main’s newest show, be prepared for a bumper crop and a huge variety. The show features many medias including stained glass, wooden spiders, photography, rocks, pottery, and watercolor.

The Sodbuster Inn, 1221 9th Ave, from 6-8 p.m. will feature traditional and contemporary fine art quilts by Jan Brummond, displayed on the cantilevered staircase.  There will also be musical entertainment by Bob Schneller, Classical Guitarist.  Also, “A taste of breakfast" will be offered and prepared by the Sod Buster Inn staff.

Max'ims Art Gallery, at 818 9th Street Plaza, will be open to the public until 8pm and offers a vast array of unique and beautiful original artwork! Max’ims features original paintings by Colorado artists, designer jewelry, handmade pottery, accent furniture, great lamps and home accessories. Max’ims Art Gallery….A Show Everyday.

            Margies Java Joint, 931 16th Street, presents a group art show featuring a variety of local artists who rework everyday items into new objects of art, both functional and frivolous. This opening reception will be from 6pm-8pm.  

            Tointon Gallery will be hosting the Artist’s Reception for “Arte de Cinco de Mayo” from 5pm-7pm. This show features work by Saul Lerma.  Saul Lerma is a Texas Born self-taught artist of Spanish and German descent. He skilled himself as a young boy by sketching scenery of south Texas and northern Colorado, but eventually found his true medium in wood. Lerma is most inspired by his love of Spanish and Native American culture and customs. He uses wood from 1800 to early 1900 homestead barns and corrals to create crosses and three-dimensional framed portraits of Southwest missions.  Each framed work of art is a hand-cut portrayal of an old mission backed with a mirror and finished with touches of leather, semi-precious stones and gems, beads, conches and precious metal crosses. Each piece is a unique and original work of art. The entrance to Tointon Gallery is located just inside the main entrance of the Downtown Greeley Recreation Center at 651 10th Avenue.

The Throne Room at 918 ½ 9th Avenue will be displaying local art featuring stone carved hangings, abstract sculptures created from a unique blend of ceramics and fiber optics, and beautifully hand crafted wood furniture.  The gallery will be serving complimentary wine, cheese and snacks from 6pm-10pm.

The Dragon Cache, 1109 7th Street, will be hosting the opening of “Masks Around the World” that is scheduled to run through the month of May.

Corleone's Italian Underground, 822 9th St., will feature Mad Dog & Johnny Johnston from 7:30pm- 11pm. They also will be offering Steak & Shrimp Dinners for only $12.00 from 5pm to close.

            Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant, at 825 9th Street, will celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a five day fiesta of specials, giveaways and fun. Guests can enjoy nightly specials and join The Rio for drink specials and live music! Dont forget about all of the GIVEAWAYS too. Enter a chance to WIN!

            Greeley History Museum, 714 8th Street, presents Our Many Cultures: Hispanics. This exhibit highlights the Hispanic culture who settled in and around Greeley. There will also be hands-on activities for children, light refreshments and gallery browsing. The event runs from 5pm-7pm.

The Salvador Deli, 800 9th Street will feature the art of local artist, Denise Gardner, and a Denver based artist, Mary Hannah Williams.  They will also be serving samples of their summer drinks. Open until 7pm.

Greeley Freight Museum, the downtown train museum set to officially open later this year, will provide guided tours at 6, 7, and 8pm of their amazing model railroad exhibit under construction. The museum is located at 680 10th Street and admission is free.

The Penalty Box, 822 9th Street, will have Happy Hour from 4pm-6pm with $1.50 Coors and $2 Blue Moon and domestic bottles.

Island Grill, 801 9th Street, will have Happy Hour specials from 3pm-7pm and 10pm-12am, $2.50 Wells & Domestic Drafts, $3.00 House Wines, Micros and House Margaritas. Relax in paradise with stunning room-size, tropical murals, a beautiful display of unique artwork that surrounds you while you dine.

Showcase Art Center, 1335 8th Avenue, will be hosting an oil painting demonstration all afternoon. Oil painting classes will be offered from 1pm-3pm. The gallery will also feature work by Colette Pitcher and May Yipp. In addition, Colette will be autographing copies of her book “Watercolor for Dummies”.

The Art Walk also encourages you to Spend a Night on the Town! Other events downtown on Friday, May 2 include:

            Open Skate: Greeley Ice Haus, 900 8th Avenue. A great family activity, open skate is only $4/person plus $2 for skate rentals. The rink will be open from 7:15pm-9:15pm.

            The Odd Couple: Union Colony Dinner Theater, 802 9th Street. This is a true classic in every sense of the word. This hilarious Neil Simon comedy inspired a movie, TV series, and countless revivals. It tells the tale of two divorcees living in the same apartment. On is a finicky, clean freak and the other a slob. The "Odd Couple" will have you in stitches the entire evening. Doors open at 6pm and show starts at 7:45pm. $36/person includes dinner, show, coffee, tea, and tax. Senior, children, military, and group discounts available.
